How to become a member
If you - as a Nordic or Baltic composer/lyricist/music publisher - join your national performing rights society you automatically become a member of NCB (Nordisk Copyright Bureau).
Your national performing rights society administers your performing rights - e.g. when your music is played at a concert or on radio/TV - and NCB administers your recording rights when your music is released on CD, MC, video, DVD or other audio and audio-visual media.
The rights NCB's administers are also referred to as your »mechanical rights«.
Online distribution of music - such as streaming/download from the Internet and download of ring tones via SMS - is administered jointly by NCB and the relevant Nordic/Baltic performing rights society.
Why join us?
To ensure low-cost and efficient administation the Nordic and Baltic performing rights societies have assigned to NCB to administer your recording rights.
Apart from the significant economies of scale that are achieved this way, it also means that you get your royalties much quicker within the NCB territory.
Through agreements with "NCB societies" in the rest of the world we receive royalties on your behalf - provided that the foreign societies have collected royalties for the recording and sale of your music. If you know that your music is released abroad we recommend that you inform NCB and subsequently check your NCB distribution statements to ensure that the royalties are included.
NCB is owned by the performing rights societies in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. NCB's head office is in Copenhagen and and there are branch offices in Helsinki, Oslo, Reykjavik, Riga, Stockholm, Tallinn and Vilnius.
Direct membership of NCB
If you live outside the Nordic and Baltic countries - and have not already joined a foreign "NCB society" - you can become a direct member of NCB.
If you wish to become a direct member of NCB and you live outside the Nordic and Balic countries, you must complete NCB's Collection Agreement and send us notification cards of your musical works. You can download these documents from the below links.
