What is a related party recording?

A related party recording is a music production where the person(s) who release the music (the producer) are identical to the person(s) who wrote the music and lyrics (composer/lyricist = authors). Besides ALL authors involved must be NCB members.

The term "related party recording" shall apply only in the following three instances:

"The producer" = the person who is responsible for the release of the production and who is responsible for the payment of NCB royalties. "Author" = the person who wrote the music and lyrics.

  1. Individuals
The producer = the author of all tracks on the production.
  2. Bands
The producer is a member of a music band (not a company). The members of the music band = the authors of all tracks on the production.
(It must be one band only – not a union or group of bands).
  3. Companies
Producenten er et firma. Firmaet = ophavsmanden/-mændene til alle tracks på produktionen.

The producer is a company. The company = the author(s) of all tracks on the productions.

This is how you do it

Click this link to access the application form.

On the application form you must indicate that it is a "related party recording".

NOTE! If you are a Finnish producer, you need to contact NCB/Finland before you complete the application form.

NOTE! The responsibility always rests with the producer

As mentioned above the producer is the person/company that is responsible for the payment of NCB royalties, and he also warrants that the production qualifies as a related party recording as defined under "What is a related party recording".

The producer is financially and in any other way accountable and responsible towards NCB, who administers the copyrights in the recorded music.

If there are several authors of the music that is going to be released as a related party recording, the producer shall guarantee NCB the following:

NCB disclaims all responsibility for any production that has been registered as a related party recording according to the definition set out above. This responsibility solely rests with the producer.
